Power points that spark when turned on without an appliance connected usually indicate a malfunction. This might be the result of outdated power points, ants etc. Do not attempt to use the PowerPoint until you have had an electrician check over it.
This could possibly be dangerous. Lights that flicker typically mean that there is a loose connection in the fitting or house wiriring. An overheated loose connection can catch fire. Please contact an electrician to have this checked out.
This usually happens in an older property. When multiple appliances are plugged into a single circuit, the circuit may trip, indicating an overload. If at all possible, try plugging in appliances into a different power outlets on the opposite side of the house—ideally on a different circuit. You may have to add a new circuit if this isn’t practical.
